Northwest Edition: I Tried a Korean-Inspired Head Spa

There are certain appointments you make because you need them…and then there are appointments where you leave thinking, “Okay, why have I not been doing this my entire life?” 😂

This was the second kind.

For this Northwest Edition, I'm taking a little break from houses, neighborhoods and real estate to show you another reason I love highlighting this side of Bakersfield: the businesses and experiences hiding right here in our own backyard.

And this time, I went to Mi Wellness & Aesthetics in Northwest Bakersfield for a head spa treatment.

Spoiler: I get the hype now.

So…What Exactly Is a Head Spa?

If you've seen those ridiculously relaxing head spa videos online and wondered whether they're actually as good as they look—YES.

Mi's head-spa experience is inspired by Korean wellness traditions and focuses on the scalp as much as the relaxation experience. Their treatments incorporate elements such as scalp analysis, cleansing, massage and customized scalp care. They also offer a more clinically focused Dr. Mi Head Spa designed for clients dealing with hair thinning or hair loss.

But let me tell you about it from the non-medical perspective:

It. Felt. AMAZING.

There's something about having your scalp deeply cleansed, massaged and cared for while you basically get permission to shut your brain off for a while that hits differently.

And as someone who went in thinking, “This should be fun to film for Northwest Edition,” I walked out thinking, “Okay...when can I do that again?” 😂

But Mi Is WAY More Than a Head Spa

This is what surprised me during my walkthrough.

It's not simply a place to book a relaxing spa treatment. Mi combines the feel of a Korean-inspired wellness spa with medical aesthetics and other treatments under one roof.

Their med-spa offerings include aesthetic and wellness services, hair-loss treatments, scalp treatments, body contouring, IV hydration, NAD+ therapy and B12 injections. Their Dr. Mi Head Spa can also incorporate therapeutic ampules or PRP for clients seeking treatment for hair thinning or loss.

They also offer weight-loss and wellness services, which is another side of the business I didn't fully appreciate until getting a tour.

In other words, you could come here because you want to relax, because you have a specific aesthetic goal, or because you're looking for a more comprehensive wellness treatment.

And We Need to Talk About the Korean Skincare 👀

This was another part that caught my attention.

During my visit, I learned about their Korean skincare products, which they told me are available through the spa and their website.

And considering how much Korean skincare has exploded in popularity, having access to products locally—and having professionals who can actually help explain what you're using—is a pretty cool addition to Northwest Bakersfield.

It's another example of why I love finding places like this for this series.

THIS Is Why I Started Northwest Edition

When people talk about moving to Northwest Bakersfield, the conversation usually starts with houses.

Square footage.

Schools.

Neighborhoods.

New construction.

And yes, we're going to talk about ALL of that.

But choosing where you live is about so much more than the house you buy.

It's where you get coffee.
Where you go for date night.
Where your kids play.
Where you shop.
And apparently…where you go when you need someone to massage your scalp until you forget what day it is. 😂

Those are the things that actually turn a neighborhood into a community.

And those are the places I want you to know about.
